Daily:

Open up the windows everyday for 30 minutes.  Lets in fresh and gets rid of stale air.  This is particularly important in the winter months when we are incline to leave doors and windows closed.

It also keeps the condensation down and your home dry.

Open up the window in the bathroom when using the shower and turn on the fan, but don’t leave the fan running all day as this could cause a fire.

Weekly:

Choose a day of the week that you do your chores. It can be all on one day or it can be that on Monday’s I water the plants and clean the car, Wednesday is wash day, etc This routine assists you in remembering when you did the chores. I try and do all the chores during the week, so that on the weekend we are free to do family activities together.

Clothes washing can be daily or weekly – depends on how much you have and what you do really

Change your bed linen each week, leave your mattress cover to air for at least 30 minutes and give it a good brush down with your hand.  Wash your pillowcases, sheets, and put outside to dry

Wash your bathroom towels, bath mat, face cloth, hand towels and hand outside to dry.  Wash your kitchen tea towels and hand towels too.  Depending on how much cooking you do you may find you have a new tea towel and hand towel each day.

Change your dish cloth each week or sterilise it in water once a week.

It is unwise to put a drying rack up inside your house and the wet clothes will attract dampness inside your house and this can turn to a mouldy unhealthy house.  At least put the rack outside during the day if the weather is fine and permitting and then put it in the laundry overnight.   A rack….. attached to the ceiling in the garage or laundry is a good option for the wet weathers if you don’t want or have a clothes dryer.

I know of one electrical company that give you an hour of free power each day and I know of a family that waits until this hour and they turn on the washing machine, dishwasher and their dryer with the clothes from the day prior.  This is a great saving if you are able to do this.

Sweep your front porch area and under your mat

Sweep your patio areas and lift any mats etc

Vacuum you carpets, rugs, flooring and empty the vacuum cleaner dust bag.

Wash all floors of wood, tile, laminate or vinyl as directed by the manufactures

Spray with disinfection all cupboard handles in the kitchen and include all the facades of cupboards and or drawers.  I like to vacuum out any crumbs in the drawers too.  Especially the utensils and the cutlery drawers.  At the same time after I say lift up all the forks and vacuum, I will then wipe them out with a wet cloth.

Clean the sink with either….. scrub to get all the tea and food stains from around the sink hole.

Wipe down the tap handle and nozzle with vinegar solution or disinfection.  Clean around the base of the tap where it is attached to the sink or bench.

Before doing my shopping list, I clean out the fridge of any out of date items, or left overs unused.  This is good to do before the rubbish collection day and if not put rubbish items in your freezer, so as to not make your rubbish smelly, and then put it in your rubbish bin the day you put your rubbish bins out for collection.  Unless you have a worm farm or a compost bin.

Wipe your fridge shelves with a small bowl of water and a few drops of vanilla essence.  This keeps your fridge smelling now and clean.

Toilets need to have a good clean weekly and sometimes in between.  Do this before you wash the floor.  You can use a toilet disinfection or vinegar solution or a bleach.  I wash the walls beside and behind the toilet, plus the top of the toilet system where the button is that everyone touches and down around the seat, including under and above the seat.

Bathrooms:  spray the vanity basins, bench, bath, shower with bathroom cleaner, or vinegar solutions. The mirror needs to be wiped over too.  The glass on the shower door can become built up with soap or white dots from hard water.  A good way to get these off are with Jiff,  or ceramco cleaner.  Another good idea is to put on the shower side of the glass the “rain resitant”that is used for cars.

Water pot plants, and plants get use to the when they are getting water. So if its a Monday, like me, then the plants are looking forward and you can remember when you did it last.

Car – once a week, take any rubbish /food etc out of the car and check that it has petrol in it for the coming weeks requirements.

You know how much you love your cosy bed? Sadly, dust mites love it just as much. Without getting too gross, our bedrooms get so dusty because that’s where we shed a lot of dead skin (dust) and that’s why dust mites live there (more dust). Bed linens, including pillows and blankets, need to be cleaned often to keep the dust from piling up.
